S8E19 Talbot Highland Fling

Two weeks in a row for a Talbot title, so you can guess which one of the Johns is on with Krys this week!

First up, for the second week running, it’s good news from the Scottish national team as they book a place in the B-Section of the UEFA Nations League, and give themselves a second chance at qualification for Euro 2020 should they need it. With the draw coming up on Sunday, we’re all expecting the usual horror draw of France, Germany, Scotland, Brazil, Real Madrid and Georgia.

On the domestic front, John had something of a mixed day on Saturday. Aberdeen were humped by Motherwell, but Talbot progressed to the fourth round and after a journey to Fraserburgh, the Arctic Circle and the Moon, a nice little home time to some local rivals was long overdue.

Elsewhere the league, Rangers are excited at the prospect of being able to go top of the league next week as all they have to do is score their now obligatory late goals against a Hearts team who haven’t scored since Noah was in their youth setup. St Mirren got their first win against them, and the wondergoal in that game leads us on nicely to talking about the Scottish Cafu joke that’s doing the rounds.

Coming up this week is match day five in the Europa League. Red Bull gives you wings but does it also give you a stitch up? Has a Rangers team ever beaten a Spanish side? We don’t know the answers but we heard it once so that’s good enough for us.

Oh, and of course it’s League Cup final weekend so with Celtic and Aberdeen playing for the first silverware of the season we discuss out hopes and dreams. Can it be a magnificent seven in a row for Celtic, or can Aberdeen win on penalties against Celtic like the Scottish Cup final of 1990?

Which takes us full circle to reminiscing about Scotland in major tournaments. It’s almost like we plan these things, but we can assure you we make this up as we go along.

S8E18 Talbot Disco Light

It’s the two John’s and Krys on this week as they discuss what’s gone on and what’s to come.

They start off with chat about the new TV deal and all are in agreement it’s not a great deal. It’s disappointing that BT have lost out when they’ve done so well talking up our game. There are positives though with Championship games getting shown on BBC as of 2019.

Scotland had the X Factor or should that be the F Factor as Fraser, Fletcher and Forrest contributed to a fine win.

There is chat about the lower leagues and how the leagues look after the weekend. The Irn Bru cup is also discussed with another great bit of organisation meaning a team couldn’t play.

The guys finish off by talking about the upcoming games at weekend in Scottish Cup and Premiership.

Thanks for listening, feel free to tweet us @sffpodcast where we are going to be more active again and look out for us soon on Instagram.

S817 – Simulation Jackson

t’s the Two John’s this week as Krys takes a weeks break. As usual, there was a lot to discuss.
Both Old Firm sides had contrasting results in their Europa League matches, and the theme continued domestically on Sunday. Was a red card shown in the wrong game?
The rest of the Premiership action brought lots of talking points as Aberdeen moved into the top six, St Johnstone made it five wins in a row without conceding a goal, Kilmarnock became the first side to win at Tynecastle (can they do a Leicester this season) and the bottom two did little to enhance their confidence in a draw at Dens Park.
Scotland’s upcoming Nations League matches against Albania and Israel brought the usual discussion on who should make the starting line up, thoughts on the latest withdrawals and call ups, particularly in the goalkeeping department.
In the lower divisions, Partick Thistle continue to slide, Arbroath’s surprise march goes on and Albion Rovers hope the only way is up under new manager Kevin Harper.
It was also a big week for TV deals as the SFA announce a deal with Premier Sports and BBC Scotland for the Scottish Cup, whilst the Sky v BT bid for Premiership rights is discussed.

S8E16 Statman John

It’s the two John’s and Krys on in another fantastic episode of the podcast. There’s plenty to talk about as always.

The guys skim over the midweek games but talk about events off the pitch in the Edinburgh derby. Both teams have suffered from a dip in form in recent games. Celtic continue to move up the gears and Aberdeen have picked up a couple vital wins. Tommy Wright is praised for the way he has managed to get St Johnstone going again.

The lower leagues are covered with yet another managerial change. Ayr continue to fly high while Partick continue to struggle even with a new manager. In League One, Arbroath continue their unbeaten run and Dumbarton are rooted to the bottom.

The Scotland squad was announced on the day we recorded podcast so the guys discuss what they think of the squad.

The three of us all love a stat so we discuss the results of the survey from The Football Observatory in Switzerland.
