S8E7 A Tale of Two Hartleys

Two Johns on the podcast, two Hartleys featuring in the dicussions for a variety of reasons. Oh and Krys is here as well.

After a week of Betfred Cup last week, there’s a full card of SPFL league fixtures to discuss. The breaking news of managerial change at Falkirk is discussed in the context of the wider competitive nature of the Championship, while League One and League Two have taken an early shape too.

There’s a brief look back at the fortunes of Scotland’s last two remaining European competitors as they both hope to progress to the group stages of the Europa League. Still a good chance they both could do that, so the thoughts are positive ahead of this week’s crucial second legs at Celtic Park and in Russia.

The Premiership review covers off a number of interesting topics, including questionable comments from the Motherwell captain, questionable tattoos from a Rangers goalscorer, questionable banners from the Celtic support, and questionable parentage of the referee at Easter Road.

Our best wishes go out to table topping Hearts manager Craig Levein who was taken to hospital.

There’s a look ahead to the Scotland fixtures in September as Alex McLeish names his squad that we hope will test themselves against Belgium before taking on Albania in the crucial Nations League match.

We finish with another look ahead to John’s charity match which now had more representation from former players of Celtic. More details can be found from John himself, just check out @jbleasdale81 on twitter.

It’s the two John’s on this week as they discuss the week gone by and what’s to come.

The guys start off with chat from the European fixtures which resulted in mixed fortunes. Hibs went out completely while Celtic dropped down to Europa League.
Last week we spoke about potential shocks in the Betfred Cup and we weren’t to be disappointed as Ayr managed to progress at expense of Dundee. All the other games went as expected. John was at the Aberdeen cup tie and was pleased with what he saw as they put in a great attacking display. Morelos went away with his first match ball in Scottish football as he scored the ‘perfect hat trick’.
The podcast ends with a wee bit of chat about the lower leagues and news of the Scotland under 21 squad being announced.

A reminder too about the charity game that John B is organising on the 9th September at Falkirk Stadium. You can find out more info @jbleasdale81 on twitter.

S8E5 Kicking Me Softly

It’s the two John’s and Krys on the podcast as they discuss the current events in Scottish football.

We’re straight in to European action as all teams remain undefeated after 90 mins. The guys discuss whether they think all or any of the teams will progress to the next round. The domestic matches of the three teams are discussed along side the European games. Once again the compliance officer seems to have been watching different footage to the rest of us.

The rest of the weekend action in the Premiership is discussed after this with the two John’s being pleased about the signing of James Wilson on loan. There was a screamer from Boyd in one of the other games but its not the game you’d think it would be.

There is a quick summary of the lower league action as talk leads to who may be first manager to lose their job.

The Irn Bru Cup continues this week with John B hoping Raith Rovers lose. This isn’t just because he is an Aberdeen fan but is due to the fact that Barry Smith has said he’ll play in his charity game that he is organising on 9th September at Falkirk stadium. A reminder that it’s an over 35s game between Aberdeen and Celtic. If anyone can help in any way then get in touch with John @jbleasdale81 on twitter.

To finish off, the League Cup is previewed with not many shocks expected.

It’s the same trio from last week but without John’s sound issues. Thankfully, everyone has managed their dinner too.

We’re straight in to European chat with the success of Scottish teams last week. Aberdeen were unfortunate not to join the other three as they took Burnley to extra time. There is also chat on where the teams need to strengthen and a contender for goal of the season already.

John B gets a chance to promote his charity game for Beatson Cancer charity between Aberdeen and Celtic over 35s on 9th September at Falkirk stadium. He has some ex Aberdeen players who will be performing but is looking for some ex Celtic players too.

The league campaign started at the weekend with success for both teams enjoying flag days in the top flight, the Edinburgh teams and Kilmarnock. The so called game of the weekend saw a draw with some controversial decisions and some interesting comments from Steven Gerrard.

There is a quick summary of what went on in the lower leagues.

After that the podcast concludes with Krys putting his name forward as a ‘celebrity’ for the charity game.
