S11E41 Guest Special: Paul Harper

On our latest show, John and Erin are joined by DJ and Aberdeen fan Paul Harper.

There is a variety of chat which ranges from memories of old jobs, going to Aberdeen games, celebrity encounters and memorabilia.

We said before the podcast it wouldn’t be just about Aberdeen but to be honest we struggled to avoid it with all of us being Dons fans.

Paul chats about fan experience in Canada and the difference between what happens there and in Scotland.

Paul shares a fantastic story about some memorabilia he has including some very special items from 1983.

There are plenty of questions from us, other regulars, friends and provides a good few laughs.

We finish off on the eve of Rabbie Burns Day by picking an alternative Scottish six a side team.

S11E40 Guest Special: Brownbear

In our first Football/Music special of 2022, John and Josh are joined by Matt from Brownbear (@brownbearband).

We kick off with a variety of questions about the name of band, news of the second album out this year though he isn’t giving too much away to build the excitement.

There are questions galore relating to football, musical influences, who he’d like to duet with and who indeed is the Long Shooty champion of Ayrshire.

Matt lets us know his thoughts on Kilmarnock appointing Derek McInnes, Scottish identity and how this was enhanced during the Euros and his favourite Scotland kit.

The second album isn’t even out yet and we have an insight in to plans for third album which we’re taking as an exclusive.

As always on these specials we could have spoke all night and we wish we’d not stopped recording when Matt revealed a guilty pleasure. If he isn’t coming out for gigs to wrestling music soon then we will be power slamming him through a table.

S11E39 Guest Special: Michael McEwan

On our first podcast of 2022, regulars Erin, Jeff, John, Josh and Scott J are joined by special guest Michael McEwan. Michael is a freelance journalist and it’s a pleasure to have him on.

We discuss some of the recent managerial changes in Scotland and how the transfer window is going for some of the teams in the Premiership.

Unfortunately the subject of Covid comes up as restrictions look set to potentially continue. We discuss the impact this is having once again on football. On the back of this we discuss the media deals i Scotland and how our game needs to be marketed better.

Discrimination is a key topic too as we discuss recent incidents in relation to racism and sexism. Michael speaks about some of the work he does to eradicate discrimination with regards to disabilities and how education is one of the key factors in relation to this.

We round up the podcast with Lower League predictions and some of the usual random questions when we have a guest on.

S11E37 Premiership Mid-Season Review

For our latest podcast, we take a look at Premiership so far with regulars John, Erin, Jeff and Scott joined by Ethan, Harry, Laurie, Andy R, Andy L, Nory and Paul who all return from episode 2. Euan and Ramsay join as replacements for AET Shirts and Andy Skinner.

We kick off with the League Cup final being discussed as Scott lords it over Harry. This leads on to some interesting debate about diving, refereeing standards and VAR.

Looking back at episode 2, we reflect on predictions made at start of the season and play a game of ‘Stick or Twist’. This leads on to thoughts of the season so far from everyone.

We also have a wee competition to see who can come up with the best ad for our sponsors Manscaped.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the podcast this year and we hope you all have a great time over the festive period. If you know of anyone struggling then please get in touch with them as this time of year can be a difficult time for many.

S11E36 Lower League Mid Season Review

For our latest episode we reflect on episode 3 where we previewed the Championship, League One and League Two. The two John’s are joined by a few guests who return in the shape of Davie Irons, Paul from the SFSA and Marc. Alan and Grant join us too in a podcast that has some questions and some statements too.

We look back at predictions made at the start of the season and whether we are sticking or twisting. Most predictions look like being not far off but we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. Will Kilmarnock get back on track and win the league? Will Morton get a manager in who can get them going at home?

The chat leads to League One and in particular, Alan’s team Falkirk who have had an indifferent season which led to Paul Sheerin leaving. A new manager is in with Kenny Miller joining as assistant. Alan says he is optimistic that there is a change of fortune while Stirling Albion fan Marc is like a kid at Christmas who has got whatever the best present is that year.

There is really interesting discussion on fan ownership, sustainability of football in Scotland, challenges in management as Davie gives us an insight in to the use of what goes on behind the scenes and the use of social media by players.

The podcast concludes with a bumper edition of our Lower League predictions game where we go up against Ally Graham every week. Unfortunately Ally couldn’t make it for this episode but he knows we miss him.

S11E35 Scots/Irish Special

For our latest episode, John is joined by Josh, new regular Jeff who has made a few appearances this season and returning guest Grant from Campbell’s Footballs.

We take a look at the influence of Irish football and the impact it has had on Scottish football. Grant gives us an in depth look at current situation in Northern Irish league while Jeff and Josh provide the detail with regards to the League of Ireland.

It’s an interesting discussion with a good few Scottish players now playing in Ireland and there are also Irish coaches who have spent time in Scotland.

There is some chat in relation to coaches and players currently in Scotland and who some of the best ones are while we reflect on players who have made an impact previously.

We conclude the podcast by picking an ‘All Ireland’ best eleven of players to have played in Scotland from the 90s onwards.

S11E34 Euro 2020 Throwback

Good John was joined by new signing Josh and special guests Neil Doherty, Russell Osbourne and Russell Todd for a Throwback special. As 2021 heads to a close, we look back at the summer of 2021 by reviewing the finals for Euro 2020 – as backward as that sounds.

Delayed a year because of the pandemic, the Euros provided light at the end of the tunnel from a football perspective. The Scots recall the hype of being back at a tournament for the first time in 23 years whilst the two Russells add in what the Euros were like from a Welsh and English perspective. For Russell O, he explains why the experience of being at a Final was tainted before it began with the trouble around the stadium.

The lads also go over some of the highlights from the rest of the tournament and each picked a best XI, leading to a combined team of the finals. We hope you enjoy this delayed Euro 2020 throwback as much as we did.

S11E33 The Rah’s Football/Music Special

For our latest Football/Music special, John is joined by singer Jack (@jackmcleodd) from East Lothian band The Rah’s (@therahsmusic).

Jack is a Hibs fan so there is chat about their Scottish Cup win in 2016, what it meant to his family and a best eleven of players he has seen in his lifetime.

The band brought out album ‘When Does It Become Real?’ earlier this year and featured on Tim Burgess’s Twitter Listening Parties so Jack tells us how that came about and also how their manager Sam got involved with the band.

There is discussion around how the album came to being produced, the buzz of hearing your music played on TV and dream gig.

As we’re coming up for Christmas, there are some Christmas based questions and of course there is food chat too.

Check the band out as they have just this week announced a headline tour and support Billy Mitchell at King Tut’s on the 23rd December.

S11E32 St Andrew’s Day Special

For our latest episode we have a treat in store with a mix of guests – Gary and James from band Dead Sea Souls, James from our Fantasy Football sponsors Supernova Terracewear and Robbie Hanratty who is a broadcast journalist. They join regulars Erin, John and Scott for one of the most bizarre episodes we’ve ever done.

In a celebration of all things Scottish, we chat football, music, food, booze fashion and more. There are random stories about ice cream vans and what they used to sell apart from the standard stuff you’d expect.

Dead Sea Souls talk about their comeback, upcoming single ‘Two Houses’ and the current Scottish music scene with a special shoutout for SAMAs Alternative/Rock best act Dictator who were recently on the podcast. They take questions from their peers and talk about their banter as a band and rival football fans.

James gives us an insight in to how the brand came about, the influence that leads to products released and a flavour of what may be to come. Remember Christmas is round the corner so make sure and check out Supernova Terracewear and give football and music fans what they really want. If you do, be sure to use TARTANSANTA discount code for 10% off.

Robbie talks about getting in to journalism, his love of music and lack of pies at Celtic Park.

The fourth round draw for the Scottish Cup is getting done while we record and we got a bit carried away. Apologies to Edinburgh City who are obviously not a non league team.

There is Scottish pride, Erin’s favourite bears, chat about the national team and some absolutely random questions which lead to us concluding with an alternative Scottish seven a side team.
