S4E20 Christmas Podcast

With Christmas around the corner, we decide to have a Christmas themed podcast, featuring all four of the podcast regulars – me (Craig), Greig, John and Krys. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that we recite the full Nativity, it simply means that we all have a drink. Well, technically I didn’t drink any alcohol, but I did discuss my love of Tennent’s (hint, hint for a freebie case of Tennent’s if anyone at the Wellpark Brewery is reading/listening to this).

We start off with what is a bit of a regular occurrence – a negative review of how the McBookie charity bet went. Motherwell held up their end of the bargain, but Partick Thistle let us down. To be specific, it was the own goal by Balatoni that let us, and charity, down. We didn’t do too well in the charity bet either, despite Krys almost picking the correct Arbroath player. I might have to take the blame there.

This week’s charity bet wasn’t the easiest bet to put on. I think we covered almost every game in Scotland as we tried to come up with a treble. Greig was especially keen to shout out every club he could think off. In the end, we went for a treble of Dundee(20/23), Stranraer(4/7), and Arbroath(11/10). £10 on the returns £61.70 at today’s prices at McBookie. For first scorer, we went for Longworth of Stranraer. That was despite Krys’ suggestion that we go for Murray of Arbroath. Time will tell whether that was a sensible move. McBookie don’t have odds available on him yet.

St Mirren vs Motherwell gains much of our attention due to the contentious red card and offside. The penalty claim wasn’t in debate – it simply wasn’t a penalty. Greig in particular gives us his unbiased opinion on the red card.

Aberdeen winning again, Partick Thistle losing the charity bet, St Johnstone putting the boot into Inverness and Hamilton winning in the other games on Saturday.

Dundee United beat Celtic on the Sunday and that inevitably leads to us discussing whether any team can genuinely challenge Celtic for the title. More than that, we discuss whether any other team should be more positive when discussing their chances. John is positive when it comes to his teams chances,  as is Greig when it comes to his sides chances. My team – Rangers – have no chance of winning the Premiership this season 😉

It was another eventful week at Rangers, with McCoist officially going on gardening leave. Luckily we didn’t litter the podcast with too many puns on that. He was replaced by Kenny McDowall, who will take over until the end of the season. His first game is against Hibs, at Easter Road on Saturday 27th. TitanBet have Rangers at 21/20 for him to open his account with a win. We also discuss the AGM and the prospect of Mike Ashley increasing his stake.

Last week’s Premiership predictions were woeful, but hopefully with four of us making our selections, we can at least get a few scorelines exactly correct. John is quite adamant that I mix up the order that the predictions are given, so that we ensure that there is no copying.

The podcast was going so well until John disappeared with five minutes to go. He assures me that he wasn’t in the huff and it was a technical issue.

Thank you to McBookie for donating the charity bet stake.
